Wellbeing Project Secures Major Grant to Help the Victims of Domestic Violence

A Social Enterprise is celebrating after receiving a £40,000 grant from the Government’s Targeted Support Fund.

The Wellbeing Project has secured the grant from the Community Foundation for Merseyside, who manage the fund in Merseyside, to deliver a unique scheme that will educate the victims of domestic violence about ways to keep well.

The Stay Safe Programme is a five-day training course designed to raise awareness of the practical steps people can take to stay safe in difficult situations.

Wellbeing Project Co-Directors Dr Laura Pogue and Mrs Paula Gamester are both understandably “delighted” at the news of securing such a substantial grant.

“The consequences of domestic violence are far reaching,” explains Dr Pogue, “affecting individuals, families and communities. This programme will enable our organisation to reach out to people affected by this issue”.

Mrs Paula Gamester said “The Stay Safe Programme is one of a number of initiatives being delivered by the Wellbeing Project that aim to educate local people about the practical steps they can take to improve their own and other people’s health and wellbeing”.

The Stay Safe Programme is available free of charge to people living in St Helens. The course includes topics on personal safety, understanding domestic violence, managing aggression as well as ‘hands on’ practical sessions that teach self-defense and first aid techniques.

For more information about the Stay Safe Programme, including dates of when courses will commence contact Paula Gamester Tel. 01744 26444. Alternatively visit the Wellbeing Project website www.wellbeingproject.co.uk
