Wellbeing Project secures major grant from Comic Relief!
The Wellbeing Project has secured a £96,000 grant from Comic Relief to run a three year community initiative that aims to tackle the stigma and discrimination associated with mental health problems.
The funding will pay for a series of innovative community road shows to take place across Merseyside that will address commonly held misconceptions about people who have experience of mental health problems.
Mark Swift, Programme Manager for the Wellbeing Project explains “The initiative will encourage audiences to become ‘active participants’ in stamping out the stigma and discrimination often associated with this issue”.
As well as tackling stigma and discrimination, the initiative will also raise the public’s awareness of the untapped skills and talents of people who have mental health problems.
Wellbeing Project Co-Directors Dr Laura Pogue and Paula Gamester are understandably delighted to learn the news about the grant:
“We’re delighted to have been given this opportunity by Comic Relief”.
“We believe this initiative will go some way towards creating a more inclusive and accepting society, where people who are experiencing mental health problems feel supported, valued and are able to contribute”.
