Workshops annnounced for Wellbeing Kidz Conference 22nd February 2008

The Wellbeing Project CIC has announced the line up for workshops for it's 2nd National Conference to be held at Haydock Park Racecourse on 22nd February 2008.

This second national conference has already been the subject of much regional and national publicity and looks set to be one of the major learning events in the health and social calendar for 2008.

Workshop overviews:

Paul Smithson: Mencap Youth Participation Officer working with people with a learning disability, their families and carers; Promoting the Voices of the Hard to Reach: Exploring how professionals, carers and advocates can work to ensure that young people who are seen as 'hard to reach' can have their voices heard.


Kate Mercer: Child Advocacy - Established Specialist Trainer in Children's Rights and Advocacy; Child Advocacy: Exploring ‘what advocacy is’ and why young people may want the support of an independent advocate. Young people will be leading the session.


Bradley Lincoln: Founder of the Multiple Heritage Project; Raising the profile of mixed race identity: Exploring the following themes; appropriate terminology and developing positive racial literacy.


Simon Howes: Coordinator for CALM (the Campaign Against Living Miserably)
; Young men and Wellbeing: Exploring some of the issues that young men experience in today’s society, with indicators as to how we may address them through a range of activities.


Sally Carr & Myrtle Finley: LGBT Youth Northwest Supporting Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and
Transgender Young People;
You're Gay! You Need Counselling Then: Exploring the difficulties LGBT Young People face in coming out and finding support, with resources that practitioners can then use in their own settings.


Mark Swift & Jennifer Brown: Halton and St Helens Primary Care Trust;
What Works to Promote Positive Mental Health: Exploring the evidence base and current best practice for promoting children’s wellbeing.


Christopher Howell: Project Illusion Life Coach and Member of the Magic Circle;
Unlocking Potential: Conceptual Illusionist uses a unique interactive approach to unlock awareness of
potential whilst teaching skills to help achieve goals.


Elaine Bousfield: Kooth Online Counselling Service;
Counsellor with experience working in mental health and with young people; Working online with young people: This workshop will look at some of the challenges and opportunities of offering therapy based services to young people online.


Naomi Cheetham: a young person who lives with cerebral palsy and refuses to let her disability stop her getting on with her life.
Young Ambassadors: Working with schools,
colleges and youth groups to raise awareness about disability (general awareness, relationships and sex matters) and also mentoring young disabled people.
